JB Institute of Technology always actively participates in putting social issues to the fore and discussing them precisely, providing satisfactory solutions. “Women Empowerment” is certainly one of the most discussed and debated issues in the contemporary Indian context. On the eve of International Women’s Day, a one-day workshop on “Women and Health Issues”, under the aegis of the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program was organized enthusiastically by the Institute on 6th March 2019 in the elated presence of entire girl students of the Institute. On this auspicious occasion, a learned galaxy of intellectuals was cordially invited to grace the beauty of the event. Smt.Usha Negi – Chairperson, Uttarakhand Commission for protection of Child Rights was the Chief Guest of the event. Dr. Anita Rawat – Registrar, Uttarakhand Technical University was the Guest of Honour for the event. Among the keynote speakers were – Prof. Raj K Dhar from Graphic Era University Dehradun, Ms. Brahmleen Kaur from UPES Dehradun, Dr. Gargi Tyagi from Mahant Indresh Hospital Dehradun, Dr. Sandeep Kaur from The Healing Artist Clinic Dehradun. Students and faculties from various other Colleges and Institutes were also present as delegates.
They represented their respective college. The workshop started with the graceful chanting of the National Anthem praising the esteemed glory of India, followed by lamp lighting and Saraswati Vandana to receive the immense and eternal blessings of the Goddess of Education – Maa Saraswati. All the distinguished guests were cordially welcomed by the Honorable Chairman of the Group – Er. L.D. Singhal. At the outset, Dr. Parul Goyal – Director JBIT presented a welcome note with his valuable notion on the subject. He apprehended that Women’s empowerment is very essential for the bright future of any country, society, and family. Women need a clean and suitable environment to live, work and grow so that they can take their own decisions in every field even if it is for themselves, their country, family, or society. As a necessary weapon to make the country fully developed and achieve the goal of development, women's empowerment always remain the mandatory component to be emphasized upon .
The event started with the motivational speech of the Chief Guest – Smt. Usha Negi shared her own challenging but winning experience of the Uttarakhand Revolution . She told the students how she managed to triumph over her fear through firm determination and rigorous courage. Being a woman, she also had to face various societal challenges and obligations but putting her high valor and presence of mind in front of the adverse situations she won. She motivated the students to be what they wish and desire. She encouraged the students that if they show their potential and adamant willpower they can achieve anything they desire for. Dr. Anita Rawat, Guest of Honor put her views on the relevance and significance of celebrating International Women’s Day. She encouraged all the students to come out from the traditional dimension of gender-specific culture. She informed the students about the rights of women and how they could lead a more undependable life. She urged the students to recognize their latent and hidden potentials and prove worthy of them. She shared her own experience as to how she managed to put the system on a more progressive path through her commitment and blessed powers from the Almighty.
Ms. Brahmleen Kaur from UPES Dehradun gave her key notion on the subject. She happens to be an expert in soft skills development. She thoroughly informed the students about various health issues of women. She brilliantly presented her views on making a perfect fit diet and hygiene among the girls. She informed me about various facts and myths pertaining to women’s health and hygiene. According to her, the body is a temple if one feels it to be and hence it becomes desirable to follow the protocols like a temple while caring for our
body. She gave wonderful tips to the students. Her presentation was highly appreciated by them. Prof. Raj K Dhar from Graphic Era University Dehradun elaborated her research in humanities. She explained her projection very scientifically giving concrete reasoning and logic.
According to her, empowering women means that the women could take their own personal independence and self-
judgment without any fear or hesitance. By leaving behind the boundaries of family and society, giving rights to women from all aspects of decisions, rights, thoughts, minds, etc. is to make them independent and hence fully empowered. In all areas and domains of society, both men and women should be brought together on the same platform in equal measure and parlance is the major objective of gender equality that is fulfilled by women empowerment. Post Lunch Session started with the address of Dr. Gargi Tyagi from Mahant
Indresh Hospital Dehradun followed by the presentation of Dr. Sandeep Kaur from The Healing Artist Clinic Dehradun. Both of them explained the importance of health and hygiene to the students.
They discussed various issues regarding women’s health. They related the concept of women’s empowerment with the attainment of a healthy life. They postulated that before knowing about ' the empowerment of women' we should understand what we understand from ' empowerment' ' Empowerment' refers to the ability of a person to have this qualification in which he/she can take all decisions related to his/her own life. Even in the empowerment of women, we are talking about the same capability, where women are independent of all the bonds of family and society and are the creators of their decisions. To achieve the aforesaid goal, remaining fit and healthy is highly essential. They strongly motivated the students to be highly careful regarding their health and hygiene.
Later, Dr. Anita Rawat was gracefully felicitated by the Honorable Chairman of the Institute – Er. L.D. Singhal by honoring her with the Award – “Inspiration & Role Model for Women”. Mementos were conferred to all the eminent guests and speakers by the dignitaries. All the girl students were given participatory appreciation certificates and gifts as tokens of love and respect on behalf of the JBIT family. The vote of thanks for the Pre Lunch Session was extended by the Director JBIT – Dr. Parul Goyal. He expressed his heartfelt thanks to all the eminent guests, speakers, and invitees for sparing their valuable time from their busy schedules to grace the event. The vote of thanks for the Post Lunch Session was extended by the Registrar JBIT – Dr. Vishant Kumar. In his note, he thanked all the guests for their valuable contribution to enriching the objective of the event. He also told that women's empowerment means improving the social and economic status of women so that they can get an opportunity to equalize their employment, education, and economic progress. The entire event was impeccably coordinated by Dr. Sandeep Chaudhary and his enthusiastic team. Dr. Sugam Gupta precisely anchored the entire event.
