B. Sc Horticulture


It is a 3 years long Undergraduate Level Bachelor’s Degree program. Like all B.Sc. courses, this one too has the semester system of learning. The 4 years duration is divided into 6 semesters, with each semester lasting a period of 6 months.

During each semester, students will have to face separate sets of theoretical subjects as well as lab practical sessions associated with those subjects.

B.Sc. Horticulture program is all about cultivation of plants, starting from seed related study to scientific study of cultivation, genetics of plants, plant diseases etc. In short, it is all about the application of scientific knowledge in plant cultivation and thus increase productivity and yield!

Eligibility Criteria

10+2 Science stream students (with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects) who have passed 12th board examination from a recognized board are eligible to pursue this course.

Job opportunities are available for Graduates in Government as well as Private sector. Talking about Government sector jobs, Officer level posts are available for B.Sc. Horticulture Graduates in State wise Agriculture Departments, State wise Forestry Departments as well as Boards like Spice/Coir/Rubber boards etc.

Coming to the Private Sector, job opportunities are available in areas such as Private Plantations, Agricultural Machinery and Equipment manufacturing firms, Agricultural Products marketing firms, Ornamental plants and flowers businesses, Food Production and Technology Industry etc.,/p>

After finishing M.Sc. Horticulture program, one may also take up the post of a Lecturer in Government or Private Colleges. Taking up advanced PhD course will help one build a career in the lucrative Research and development sector associated with this field.
